This national program, with a total budget of 35M€, also brings together major French robotics laboratories. The program addresses three key scientific challenges: understanding the determinants of robots’ social adaptation and their links with robotic decision-making and design choices; creating integrated robot hardware and software architectures to enable embodied intelligence and robustness in complex operational environments; and endowing robots with fluid human–robot interaction capabilities to foster social integration. Within this program, DEFROST is highly involved through two specific actions: one dedicated to materials, architectures, and embodied intelligence, and another focused on simulation tools for multi-physics, multi-scale robots.
